WANDERLUST; Glastonbury Festival of Contemporary & Performing Arts (I)

Jacqui and I purchased our tickets during a highly competitive and stressful 2 hours in October last year. Luck was on our side. According to the Guardian, the 137,500 tickets sold out in 4 hours. From memory, after the 3rd hour twitter was abuzz with talk that all the tickets had already gone.

Glastonbury is not for the faint hearted. Even getting to the festival was hard work!

On Wednesday June 22, 2011 we put on our wristbands and caught the train from London to Castle Cary, waited in line at Castle Cary for about 1.5 hours, got the bus to the festival, then waited in line for another 2 hours, then it took us an hour to walk from the entrance to the other side of the festival where our campsite was.

The moment I met the Glastonbury mud. It really is a hybrid breed of super mud.

We undertook this journey whilst attempting to not put our many bags in the mud, needless to say – after about half an hour in the line waiting to get into the festival site we gave in and just sat on our bags in the mud.

Upon arriving at our camp site – Tangarine Fields – we decided to have a nap. 14 hours later we woke and it was Thursday morning.

The camp site was outside the actually festival site, but only a short walk away.

The positives of camping in the Tangarine Fields area were that our tent was already set up when we got there, the camp site was very clean and orderly, we had nice toilets, a cafe and hot showers. There also wasn’t such a high risk that valuables would be stolen from our tent whilst we were out adventuring for the day.

The only negatives were that we missed out on some of the festival atmosphere and couldn’t bring friends that we made back to our camp site.

On Thursday we explored the whole Glastonbury site. As you can see, it is quite large. We camped just outside gate B, in the north east.

I’ll tell you about the different areas in the next post.

WANDERLUST; Manchester.

My fascination with Manchester began at 17 when a friend showed me the film 24 Hour Party People. It’s about the Manchester music scene (AKA ‘Madchester’) in the 80’s and early 90’s, and what went wrong with the Hacienda night club.

Last Friday I went on a Manchester Music walking tour, led by drummer of the Inspiral Carpets; Craig Gill. Inspiral Carpets were around at the same time as The Stone Roses and Noel Gallagher from Oasis was their roadie!

Standing on the site where the Hacienda nightclub used to be, and thinking all the amazing nights experienced there, sent shivers up and down my spine.

My favourite DJ – Laurent Garnier – was part of the Madchester scene and is included on the timeline on the back of the building, which charts the growth through to the collapse of the Hacienda.

The important things in life…

Whether it be thought provoking lyrics, a bass line which hooks me in, or a build up which never fails to impress which it peaks… Music is one of those things in life which, when other aspects appear dull, reminds I’m alive.

19th Birthday Week.- Falls Festival and 3rd Class.

I know this blog is a few days late but oh well.

First of all, thanks heapppsss to everyone who I saw during my birthday week.
I had the best birthday week ever.

Falls was great, even though it rained a lot it was mostly at night. The cold weather had a few benefits though; the toilets didn’t smell as bad as they have other years, or so i’m told, because it wasn’t so hot.

Oh and monday night the top came off our tent, the waterproof part, so i woke at 6am to dripping on my face and had to wake one of the other girls to help me put it on. And also the marquee had collapsed and the poles of the marquee were scraping across the windows of the people’s car next to us, because it was really windy.

I saw Augie March, British India, Tame Impala, Tegan and Sara, Faker, The Kooks, Gameboy Gamegirl, Grafton Primary, Seagull, Cut Off Your Hands, Architecture In Helsinki, Santogold, The Grates, Gomez and Franz Ferdinand (Also amazing 🙂 :)) And yes I had to look at the program to remember them all haha. The only regret I have is not seeing Soko, but I was on the other side of Falls at the time and time got away from me.

Then we came back (birthday day), I didnt sleep, and went to 3rd closing party and was there from 10:30 pm thursday to 9am monday. supposedly people were still there at 5pm friday!

Lomo and Polaroid photo props to Tess and Dani.

yesterday mim and had lunch in degraves and did some shopping, before i went to work.
it was so nice to just have a day hanging out and not feel guilty,
like i should be studying or anything.

i got these:

so i think i will wear them to the teenagers on friday.
fuck, i’m so excited to see them.

i had such a fun weekend –
saturday and sunday just went to 3rd,
but it was just chilled and i felt really comfortable.

today i was feeling really….squirmish?!
hmmm maybe restless would be a better word.

but tonight i went to the gym for 2 hours and feel really happy now.
i think i’ll go to bed soon so i can fit lots into my day tomorrow.
i’m craving a good savers session.
